Now a little break from the ordinary:
Zach Galifianakis has recently teamed up with Kanye West to release a music video for his latest hit, “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.” Being called upon to share his musical talent and aspiration to live la vida loca is nothing new for Mr. Galifianakis, who last year appeared in a coveted version of Fiona Apple’s Not About Love video that was reportedly “stolen” from the top drawer of the dresser in Ms. Apple’s hotel room. The footage was promptly leaked to the press leading the public to believe that Zach may have in fact co-wrote the hit with Ms. Apple (contrary to the credits on the back of the album). Whether or not he had a hand in the writing of Can’t Tell Me Nothing is still unknown, but there are rumors going around claiming that Zach was the inspiration for the song.
This video also features an appearance by Will Oldham and has Michael Blieden directing. Kanye West is listed as the Executive Producer.

Created by JWT and featuring the US premier of Koichiro Tsujikawa as Director, this spot for the new Smirnoff Vodka named “Source” features water pulsating to the music of The Rapture (song is titled “Whoo Alright Yea Uh Huh”). The new brand initiative ends the ad with a simple message “Pure spring water + alcohol” then closes with the tagline: “Clearly source. Clearly.”

Taken from AvenueVine
“The broadcast ads will run in nine Northeastern states through the end of August, including Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Road Island.
The online banner ads, which will allow consumers to use their mouse to manipulate the dancing water to create unique shapes and patterns of their choosing, will run from July through August and again from October through November. Outdoor billboards featuring a three-dimensional bottle of Smirnoff Source being submerged in water will appear in cities throughout the Northeast beginning in July.”

Interesting new addition to the already crowded vodka market. I’m curious to see how this takes to American markets. This product will be offered under their Progressive Adult Beverage line, which already features Smirnoff Ice, Smirnoff Raw Tea and Captain Morgan Parrot Bay Tropical Malt which should give you the general market/demo they’re shooting for.

Don’t think the product will last long, but I was a fan of the spot….. then again, if you read this site for long enough you’ll find that I’m a sucker for eye-candy.

UPDATE 7/26/07: It’s just been pointed out to me that Smirnoff Source is NOT a vodka brand, but rather a malt beverage sold alongside beer. Sorry for the confusion. Press release can be found here

So I’ve recently been sent the new Alltel Wireless campaign. I’ve only been able to catch two or three of these on-air and to be honest, I’m digging what I’ve seen so far. The early stages of this campaign pitting the Alltel Wireless guy against the nerds representing the other major carriers hasn’t been a favorite of mine, however I think this new series is taking the original concept in a better direction. Judge them for yourself - Man Cave is shown up above, and the others in the series can be seen here: Spies, Alice, and Help Me.

Campbell Ewald is the agency of record for Alltel Wireless and have teamed up with Mike Bigelow from Gartner notoriety to create this spot with Helen Hollien producing. Rich Smith from Mad River Post was the editor.

Keep it going, as I said before, these series are getting better and better as you seem to be gradually adapting to the market response.
