You are currently browsing the archive for the Magazine category. MadMen Redesign

In a clever full-brand media buy, AMC’s Mad Men have taken over the homepage & archive sections in it’s entirety. I don’t know which side approached the other first for this promotion but it was a smart move on Playboy’s part. Not only does the brand have a high distinction with the era but caters to the stereotypical fan of the award-winning television series set in the early 1960’s New York. Some of the content promoted on the themed redesign include photos of the cast ‘frolicking’ with bunnies on the Playboy lawn in addition to articles revisiting actual Playboy content from the era. With the season premier just around the corner AMC seems to be pulling out all the stops in preparation. Other promotions include, a website allowing visitors the ability to create their own custom Mad Men avatars, a Bananna Republic casting call for user-submitted photos of your best Mad Men attire and also Mad Men themed events all around New York city.

If you’re in the least bit interested in catching the unique redesign of, you might want to check it out soon as it’s only supposed to last for today only (Monday, Aug. 10th).

Atlanta Peach Magazine Shut Down

Apparently a team of HR reps from parent company Niche Media Holdings showed up at the Atlanta Peach Magazine’s swanky Buckhead office yesterday (Tuesday) to tell publisher Elizabeth Schulte Roth and staff that they were suspending publication of her magazine immediately….Then promptly:

…Confiscated the staff’s corporate BlackBerrys. By early Wednesday morning, the Atlanta Peach magazine Web site had already been dismantled.

Talk about a Boiler Room style of corporate shut-down! According to the AJC, even their company spokesperson was under strict orders not to discuss the matter.

Last year NYC-based Niche Media merged with Ocean Drive Media (publishers of the Atlanta Peach Magazine) and Vegas-based Greenspun Media Group in order to form the power-triad of city-specific luxury publications now known as Niche Media Holdings. They claimed an over-all reach over 16 markets with an estimated 4.4 million readers. I guess not many were fans of The Real Housewives of Atlanta….

Here’s the latest from GQ, giving us a checklist for what being the “ideal man” would entail. This was produced to promote the No. 1 issue of the new French version of the American magazine. Pretty funny. From the exaggerated running form in “Graceful” to my personal favorite transition being “Sensual” to “Likes Animals” to “A bit like De Niro.” The ad ends letting us all know that sorry ladies, “The perfect man doesn’t exist…His magazine, Maybe. GQ”
All in all this is probably the best spot for a men’s magazine i’ve seen to date. It appeals to both crowds in its clever usage of humor and wit. I will say this though, the spot doesn’t have any of the feel of the actual magazine (yes I’ll admit I subscribe to GQ), but then again, who cares, it’s fun to watch.

The spot was created by DDB, Paris and directed by Les Minis Vegas (MiniVegas).
Alexandre Hervé and Sylvain Thirache were the CDs with both Sophie Megrous and Julie Mathiot producing this piece (Fabien Teichner was the copywriter). La Pac, Paris was the production company used for this spot.

Like most spots that go the humor route, it makes you wish you were a part of the crew. [somewhat risque content below the fold… be warned]
