Clean Advertising

A cool new medium for street advertising which uses pressure washers to “write” ads into dirty areas of the sidewalk/pavement/walls. The first image can be found around Vancouver and was done to promote the 2006 Lotus Awards. Created by Vision Media, this type of outdoor advertising gets props for being not-only creative/original(well, using pressure washers at least - see CA Awards Annual 2004 - Toyota(Australia)) but also eco-friendly. The second campaign can be found around Europe and was conceptualized by O&M/London to promote the reduced-emissions Ultimate fuel by BP. Supposedly they are asking for permission before “cleaning” their message into public places, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Two years ago UK graffiti artist ‘Moose’ was fined for creating a reverse stencil to promote the Smirnoff brand(he would hand-scrub the surface with chemicals however). Clever.

You forgot to mention the ad done by Saatchi London/NY for Ariel where Moose cleaned out shapes of clothes hanging above the Ariel logo. As seen in Archive, Vol 4-2005, page 82. No arrests or fines were made, thank you very much.

well Jaime… I stand corrected….
