Now here’s a great example of a company using bloggers to spread the word about a new product - HP and “word-of-mouth” marketing agency Buzz Corps have partenered up for an event they’re calling “The 31 Days of the Dragon” in an effort to promote the new HP HDX Dragon Entertainment Notebook. Essentially it’s a ramped up Pavillion line made for heavy entertainment use, which means yes… I want one badly. I’m sure you do too - so here’s how to get one. 31 laptops were given out to 31 different blogs. Sadly I was not chosen but here is a list of all the sites that were. Each one will be conducting their own form of contest to see who gets the laptop, all having to find a winner within a specific week, so if you’re desperate for one of these media powerhouses, you’ve got thirty-one chances…one laptops will be given out each day for 31 days…. good luck.
The Website List - including which weeks they have to run their “contest” (followed by the actual computer specs):
Each one of these supercharged machines is loaded up with the following:
The HP HDX Dragon comes with Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit) and is powered by an Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor X9000 (2.80GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB). Other features include 20.1″ diagonal WUXGA High-Definition HP Ultra Brightview Widescreen (1920×1200) 1080p, 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm), 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS, HP Imprint Finish (Dragon) + Fingerprint Reader + Webcam + Microphone, Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network Connection and Bluetooth, 500GB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (250GB x 2), Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer, Integrated HP HDTV Hybrid TV Tuner and 4 Altec Lansing speakers with HP Triple Bass Reflex subwoofer, and 9 Cell Lithium Ion Battery.
The entertainment notebooks will come with these software titles: Microsoft Office, Corel PaintShop Pro X2, Corel Painter Essentials, Corel Ulead Video Studio Plus 11.5, Symantec Norton Internet Security.
For the gamers in us the winners will receive the following games: Viva PiƱata,Microsoft Flight Sim, Microsoft Flight Sim Expansion Pack, Gears of War.
And since this is an entertainment beast, you will enjoy the following Blu Ray movies out of the box: Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man’s Chest, Pirates of the Caribbean - At World’s End.
The total retail value of each of these prizes would be over US $5,000
Best of luck guys, the specs were taken directly from the promotional site, the list itself was originally lifted from Amit Agarwal’s blog - Digital Inspiration….a site that WAS one of the lucky chosen. Amit has to give away his donated laptop via a contest running from the 17th to the 24th of May…. He’s a smart guy, so I’m sure it’ll be a hard one to win. Check out the blog though, he’s got more than just a laptop to offer (i’m referring to content guys, sorry… I’m pretty sure this is the only actual piece of hardware he is willing to part with on his blog, and even then, I can’t see anyone wanting to part with this sweet, sweet machine).
Computer dorkiness aside, the buzz that this will create will be worth the price of those laptops X 50. Great idea guys, now if only I could convince HP to give me one of those laptops so that I can write a review… hmmmmm….

Genius! This way the bloggers and HP win since the former will get more traffic and the latter doesn’t have to put time and labor into developing its own contest and trying to publicize it. Well done.
