Here’s the latest from DDB Chicago for Bud Light Lime. Pretty cool visual effects work done, the transitions/lighting changes are really smooth, nice work!

Yvonne Chia and Jamie Overkamp were the Copywriter/Art Director team for this piece along with Will St. Clair as the Executive Producer (Kevin James was also a Producer). It was directed by Johannes Gamble from Superstudio (”super!”) with Ty Evans as the DP. Nathan de la Rionda and Dana Garman were the Producer/Executive Producer combo on this project. It was shot entirely in Van Nuys, CA.

Johannes Gamble also was the Editor/VFX Supervisor for this piece. Apparently he’s either a credit hog or he’s really just that multi-talented (he’s also listed as the Sound Designer on this one).

Here’s an ad for Smith & Nephew’s replacement implants that will leave you wanting to go do something “extreme” like change the channel. The voice-over is pretty bad for this one as they’re desperately trying to reach what I’m guessing is a younger crowd, but am still unclear which generation they’re referring to as it’s pretty vague. Ogilvy, NY was the agency responsible for this campaign.

Here are a few gems taken from the ad:

A generation of doers

Each made to endure, like the adventurous spirit of our generation..

Engineered to meet the needs of your high performance life.

Horrible copy… great animation though. It’s really the only reason why i’m posting this, the visual effects are absolutely killer.

Eben Mears and Mate from Psyop directed this piece with Michael Neithardt and Lucia Grillo as the Producer/Executive Producer (Tarun Cahraipotra was the Assistant Producer). The CG artists were Alvin Bae, Jan Bitz, Jae Ham, Miguel Salek, Jeff Dates, Rich Magan, Jacob Slutsky, Jason Vega, Goo-Shun Wang and Lee Wolland. Ben Chan was the Storyboard Artist (Andreas Gebhardt was the Software Developer). After Effects were done by Doug Purver, Jason Conradt and Elliot Blanchard. Sound Design was by Q Department.

Here’s a cool new spot for Nestle owned Jamba Juice by Publicis NY and Stardust Studios. Something interesting about this project was the way in which they animated the figure on the swing-set. It was all taken from a motion-capture shoot over at Santa Monica-based Perspective Studios where they had a live model performing the swimming, swinging and other actions that you see in the finished spot.

from Brad Tucker, Creative Director for Stardust Studios:

“The data from that shoot was then imported straight into Maya,” Tucker explained. “From there, we applied the data to the 3D models to create the motions you see the characters performing….”

The song used this :30 commercial was Fruit Machine by The Ting Tings.

Jeremy Filgate and Liem Nguyen were the Copywriter/Art Director team from Publicis NY with Anthony Garretti as their Executive Producer (Simeon Roane was the CD).

Brad Tucker from Stardust Studios directed this 3D fruitopia along with Paul Abatemarco as Executive Producer (Josh Libitsky was Line Producer). Jonathan Wu was the Art Director for Stardust, working with 3D artists Joseph Andrade, James Anderson and Chris Eckardt. Andrew Ashton was the VFX Supervisor/Compositer for this project.

Motion Capture for this spot was by Perspective Studios, Santa Monica and featured Eric Warzecha as the Audio Mixer from Sound Lounge. Di Johnston was the voice-over artist. Once again the music was Fruit Machine by The Ting Tings.

Here’s a recent spot for The Coca-Cola Company with an Olympic theme. Created by Wieden + Kennedy, Amsterdam, it gives us a 3D animated birds perspective on an “Olympic task.”

As part of their Olympic Games promotion, Wieden + Kennedy had recently released a spot for Coke featuring an animated match-up between American LeBron James and Chinese Yao Ming. It seems like ever since they came out with their Coca-Cola - Video Game and Happiness Factory series of spots they’ve been trying to re-create that same level of success that was found using 3D animation.

Dave Smith and Pierre Janneau are the Copywriter/Art Director duo for w+k with Neil Henry, Elissa Singstock and Cimien Ekici as agency producers (Emma Williamson was the PM). Partizan Films was the Production Company.

Eric Lerner directed the animated portion with Isabella Parish as the executive producer (Julie Crosbie was a production company producer as well).

For the live action portion, Thomas Hilland directed with Russell Curtis and Miranda Johnstone as the executive producer/producer. Stephen Keith-Roach was the director of photography with Russell Icke editing for Munky, London.

Music was by A-Bomb and Human (Where Augusta Quiney and Marc Altshuler are executive producers). Audio post production was by Wave Studios.

I couldn’t help posting this - it’s the latest trailer from Red Bee Media to promote a new BBC documentary on Saddam Hussein called “The House of Saddam.” From the chilling Godfather-reminiscent horn solo to the stunning special effects used to melt the characters, I’ve probably watched this a dozen times…

taken from the Finish website:

Focusing on the lives of Saddam’s closest family and an elite few, this intimate portrait into the world of Saddam’s inner circle charts the rise and fall of one of the world’s most terrifying regimes.

The series takes place against the backdrop of the larger tragedy of the Iraqi people, and draws out the story of the Middle East’s relationship with the West.

Working from supplied publicity stills and a small fx shoot for elements Finish’s brief was to bring the pictures to life. Using 2D to morph between stills to add movement and create contra zooms on the family portraits. In 3D we textured a head with the available stills and using maya fluids & maya particles ‘melted’ Saddam & his daughters face, with 2D additional compositing of plates from the fx shoot to give the overall ‘melting’ of the family.

Edel Erickson was the agency producer for Red Bee Media (where Mina Patel is Creative Director). This promo was directed by Wilfred and featured the folks over at Finish as the post-production outfit. It was edited by Alex Lea from Envy. Fi Kilroe was the post-production producer with Jason Watts/Steve Murgatroyd getting credit for the Visual FX. The 3D animation was done by Mark Gregory, Phil Jackson and Paul Wright (Byron Wooffindin was the Flame Assistant).
