VW Bug

Well, maybe not in that order, but it seems that the rumors are looking to be true that Crispin is losing the Volkswagen account (not to mention also declining the invitation to participate in their agency review). This was later celebrated via twitter by Alex Bogusky’s wife (@boguskyswife) who’s now on a search for a navy blue replacement (look on the bright side, at least you know you won’t have to trade it in for a MINI).

In 2005 they resigned working on the MINI USA account in order to take on the German auto giant leading to even more rumors of possible replacements. It should be interesting to see who they end up with, according to Agency Spy some of the competitors invited to the review include SF-based Goodby Silverstein & Partners and Deutsch.

Angela Natividad from over at AdRants lays the smack down on a representative from IBD Brands, India who apparently has a problem with sending out their agency spec. work (posing as approved creative currently running), then trying to retract the content by claiming it wasn’t theirs. This happens more often than I’d like to admit, but typically the agency involved is quick with an apology and the offending material is modified or removed (hey, mistakes happen!). This guy takes a different route when dealing with Angela. She describes the whole incident along with not only his response (claiming that the creative wasn’t theirs despite being listed in the promo) but also all the other times that this agency has attempted to pass off spec. work on the site. Kudos.

I really love this new commercial from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners for Sprint. It embodies everything that reminds me of life at an advertising agency. From the nit-picking clients, frazzled designers all the way to the stubborn directors, this is it. My favorite part is how they tell the client that adding pants to the character will cost them an extra million dollars… classic!

The credits sheet on this one is HUGE, so rather than talk about each individual in paragraph format, I’m going to opt for a list at the end of this post. Some people to pull out though are probably the most obvious. The Farrelly Brothers are perfect in this mini-glimpse into the daily lives of Hollywood + Advertising production teams. Rus Chaeo and Kevin Koller were the Copywriter/AD team for this piece, so I have to call attention to their role in this spot along with the folks from Semerad for their work on the animated Happy The HedgeHog. Great work guys!
