This has to be one of the most emotionally riveting PSA’s that I’ve ever come across. The song selection was impeccable – Johnny Cash singing the Nine Inch Nails song, “Hurt,” mixed with the vibrantly chilling imagery of the household of an abused child leaves my stomach turning. Directed by Mark Molley for the Australian Childhood Foundation, this spot was conceptualized by Clemenger BBDO.
Good work for a noble cause. We need more of these creative spots to draw attention to everyday problems affecting millions who are just under our noses but still within our grasps.

This is a good break from the recent series of H3 ads where the participants run out to buy a Hummer after feeling inadequate for one reason or another. Personally, I hate those spots. I think that they have a negative effect on making people interesting in purchasing their product. It labels all Hummer owners as being wimps trying to make up for the fact that they get walked all over in life. But not with this spot.
Now it might just be because the Great Escape is one of my all-time favorite movies, or that there is a cameo from Steve McQueen’s son at the end, but I think that this ad is great. It doesn’t do much for selling Hummers, but as far as cinematography goes, it’s a winner in my book.
From their press-release:
“The goal of Escape, was to show how the H3 inspires people to break free from their hectic and confined daily routine, explains Megan Stooke, HUMMER marketing director.”
Kudos go out to Modernista! Boston and director Fredrik Bond from MJZ.
The best part is when they see their “fallen comrade” running towards them in a dress at the end. Good stuff.

Here’s the latest spot for Coca-Cola. Conceptualized by Wieden + Kennedy – Portland, this video was the love child of the good folks over at Nexus Productions. Made to resemble the popular video game series, Grand Theft Auto, this shows what life would be like if the main character started his day off by drinking a cold Coke. He no longer feels the need to rob, kill, and pillage(all of which made the game immensely popular and highly addicting). It then goes on to show the character going about his day performing various acts of goodwill to celebrate “The Coke Side of Life.” If they’re trying to appeal to the young crowd with this one, I think they’re spot on. GTA(especially the latest one, Vice City) is a household name amongst the 18-30 year old crowd. Even the Chappelle Show did a parody of the game.
First the Happiness Factory spot and now this one, hopefully that means we can expect to see more utilization of 3d animation in ads. Very clever, very original, bottom line: I like this spot.
[Update] W+K just posted the storyboard for this pitch on their blog. You can view it here.

UPDATE!: The song used in this spot was originally recorded for a 1976 gangster film called Bugsy Malone and is the music in the closing scene. You can buy the soundtrack here: Bugsy Malone OST – You Give A Little Love
